HOPKINTON SOCCER OPPORTUNITIES
HSC, HYSA, & Hopkinton School District
FALL 2013

Three organizations provide soccer opportunities for Hopkinton’s youth: Hopkinton Soccer Club (HSC), Hopkinton Youth Sports Association (HYSA), and starting at 7th grade, the Hopkinton School District (Middle School Soccer). Both HSC and HYSA are non-profit organizations run exclusively by volunteers. While the principal goal of each organization is the enrichment of our community’s youth, each offers different approaches and emphasis.
HSC is a travel soccer club that offers a competitive soccer program year round. All coaches are licensed for the respective age group. All games have patched referee. Players are selected at tryouts which attempt to evaluate soccer skill, athletic ability, and player attitude.
HYSA offers recreational fall soccer for all Hopkinton youth who sign up. HYSA creates balanced teams with no tryouts required. HYSA teams emphasize fair play, sportsmanship and equal playing time for all. HYSA does not offer indoor or spring soccer.
Middle School Soccer, HSC, and HYSA offer valuable opportunities for our youth. We hope that parents and coaches will communicate this fact to all youth who participate in any of these programs. Player attitude and fair play are prime goals of all organizations. The “better” program is the one that best suits your child’s needs.

All U9 and U10 players interested in playing will be placed on a team.

U11-U14 HSC conducts OPEN TRYOUTS before fall registration for the upcoming soccer year. Although skill is an important factor, selection of a player is not based on soccer skill alone. Player loyalty, commitment, contribution, spirit, hard work, athletic ability, attitude, maturity, and cooperation all play an important role in player selection and team success. Ultimately, player selection is made by the head coach, often after discussion with other coaches and board members who were involved in the tryout process. HSC teams play competitive games against similarly formed teams through the Granite State Soccer League. U9 and U10 play in the Early Development Program at Granite State Soccer League.

HSC games are played on weekends and teams practice 3-4 times a week depending on coach and age group.

All players planning to play for HSC should come to at least one night of evaluations!
