Statement of Purpose



The Hopkinton Middle and High School Statement of Purpose was developed to articulate our community's expectations for school and student performance. Because this statement must reflect the actual beliefs and values of teachers, parents, students and community members, we welcome your comments and suggestions.

Statement of Purpose

Hopkinton Middle/High School is committed to developing students to their fullest intellectual and social potential in an atmosphere of mutual trust, respect and collaboration. We strive to provide students with excellent academic and co-curricular programs which challenge them to produce their best work. We encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and to cherish the act of learning as a life-long skill. We are committed to providing students with the support necessary to meet these high standards of accomplishment.

Our purpose is to prepare these students to make sound life choices. We educate our students to be productive citizens of their community and of the world. We encourage cooperation among the family, the school and the community as the best means to ensure that our students assume the personal responsibilities inherent in good citizenship.

Expectations for Student Performance

Students will

  1. Acquire a strong base of knowledge across the curriculum.
  2. Use critical thinking, analysis, and appropriate problem solving techniques.
  3. Communicate effectively in both oral and written expression, using insight, reason, and technical proficiency.
  4. Read, understand and interpret information from a variety of sources, regardless of medium.
  5. Work both independently and collaboratively in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  6. Use technology to find, sort, and select data, to create, revise and present written and graphic documents, and to analyze and process numerical data.
  7. Develop positive personal attitudes and experience a variety of physical activities for lifelong wellness.
  8. Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to those of other cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
  9. Demonstrate the creative process across the curriculum
  10. Achieve at a high level across the curriculum.

Expectations for School Performance

Hopkinton Middle/High School will

  1. Provide a curriculum which integrates content, theory, and practical application of acquired knowledge.
  2. Provide a challenging, intellectually demanding and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  3. Provide a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which complement the academic curriculum.
  4. Provide a safe, comfortable environment where people respect themselves, others and their individual and cooperative achievements.
  5. Provide the support necessary to student success.
  6. Maintain effective communication between and among administration, staff, students, parents, and community.
  7. Use a variety of assessment methods.
  8. Provide meaningful opportunities for both independent and collaborative work.
