Hopkinton PTA - Meeting Minutes – September 6, 2007

(Subject to approval at the October 4, 2007 meeting)

 

Present:

Kathy Donohoe, Trish Underwood, Sally Turcotte, Kelly Hertz, Ingrid Dinter, Mark Newton, Sam DelGado, Michelle Benson, Mike Besette, Steve Chamberlin, Kate Sintros, Eileen Reinacher, Julie Guarente, Jean Tewksbury, Bill Carozza, Laura McGlashan, Julie Morris, Kathi Echelberger, Natalie Duval, and Jennifer Quiet.

 

Motion was made to approve the meeting minutes for the June 2007 meeting, and seconded.  Approved without opposition.

 

Kathy Donohoe reported on the start of the school year events.

 

Natalie Duval reported on the Safe Routes to Schools initiative.  She requested a letter of support from the PTA to be included in the federal grant application.  Nancy Skarmeas will write the letter. 

 

Natalie Duval volunteered to coordinate the ski helmet sale.

 

Laura McGlashan and Kathy Donohoe reported on this yearÕs budget and fielded questions about specific line items. 

 

Kathy Donohoe reported on fundraising ideas for the present school year.  Cherrydale fundraiser sales have been dwindling and a parent survey indicated interest in other ideas, such as an art fundraiser.  The Art Fundraiser was chosen for this year.  An option for a cash donation will be added to the letter that goes out to parents.

 

Funding Requests:

 

  1. Mike Alberici requested $500.00 for the Marine Band Concert.  Motion to amend to $300, was made and seconded.  Approved request for $300.00 without opposition.
  2. Kate Sintros requested $400 for a 9th grade social studies trip to Plimoth Plantation.  Motion to approve was seconded.  Approved $400 with no opposition.
  3. Sue Batchelder requested $400 for the Middle School Art Club.  Motion to approve request for $400 was seconded and then approved without opposition.

 

Kathy Donohoe reported on PTA meeting dates for the rest of the year.

 

Discussion of the Halloween event at Harold Martin.  Event will be held on 10/27 from 1:00 – 2:30.

 

The group discussed other items, including the ski helmet sale, the bike helmet sale, movie nights, and bringing back Lynn Lyons for further seminars.

 

Michelle Benson volunteered to coordinate the movie night at Maple Street School.

Kathi Echelberger volunteered to coordinate the movie night at Harold Martin School.

 

Jennifer Quiet volunteered to check into a tubing night at PatÕs Peak.

Sam DelGado volunteered to check into a family glow bowling night at BoutwellÕs in Concord.
