Minutes for the meeting of November 1, 2007

Present: Jean Tewksbury, Laura McGlashan, Nancy Skarmeas, Bill Carozza, Michael Bessette, Steve Chamberlin, Eileen Reinacher, Natalie Duval, Kathi Echelberger, Sally Turcotte, Trish Underwood, Pamela Lesko, Michelle Benson

 

Sally Turcotte moved that the Sept. and Oct. 2007 minutes be approved. Seconded by Laura McGlashan. Approved.

 

Budget

Laura McGlashan reported that the ItÕs My Artwork fundraiser made $5,548.50, a significantly higher than expected profit. An additional $546 was earned through PTA dues and movie nights.

 

Funding Requests

1.  Isobel Yonemura requested $179 for the annual second grade turtle program, which will serve approximately 60. Motion to approve made by Natalie Duval; seconded by Laura McGlashan. Approved.

2. Fourth grade teacher Becky Perkins requested $250 to fund a program put on by Ruth Smith of the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum. The program will serve 82 children. Motion to approve made by Nancy Skarmeas; seconded by Kathi Echelberger. Approved. 

3. A request for $260 for the yearbook club at Maple Street was submitted by parent volunteer Amanda Chase. She sought $200 to buy a digital camera and $60 to cover shipping costs. Michael Bessette amended the request to $60. He informed the meeting that the school had digital cameras already available for use. Motion to approve made by Natalie Duval; seconded by Michelle Benson. Approved.  

 

Safe Routes to School Grant:  Natalie Duval reported that the Safe Routes to School grant application for $20,000 was scheduled to be reviewed by the committee on Nov. 13. Awards will be made in December. 

 

Bike and Ski Helmets: Natalie Duval will send out ski helmet order forms the week of November 5.

 

Hawk Shirts Sale:  Julie Morris will coordinate the sale of Hawk merchandise to HMS and MSS families. Order forms will be distributed the week of November 12. 

 

Upcoming Events

1. A yoga night for HMS children and their parents, run by Ingrid Dinter, will be run Friday, Nov. 9.

2. Sam Delgado provided details about the cost of a glow bowling night at BoutwellÕs in Concord. The charge is $25 per lane per hour with six bowlers per lane. Lanes can be reserved after families sign up to attend. Jean Tewksbury will ask Sam to plan a bowling night for the near future. 

4. MSS Movie Night will be Friday, Nov. 9. the movie will be The Pink Panther, which is rated PG. The night will be advertised to MSS students only.
