Minutes for the meeting of February 8, 2007

(Subject to approval at the March 8, 2007 meeting)

 

Present: Kathy Donohoe, Julie Morris, Nancy Skarmeas, Joyce Rose, Bill Carozza, Steve Chamberlin, Sally Turcotte, Trish Underwood

 

Motion made by  Sally Turcotte to approve January 2007 minutes; seconded by Trish Underwood. Approved.

 

Budget

Joyce Rose reported that the budget is mostly unchanged since the last meeting. 

 

Funding Requests

1. Julie Morris presented a request for $200 to bring back Lynn Lyons for a follow-up presentation. Her Quickly Calmer seminar in January was well-attended and widely praised by parents.  The second session will be a question-and-answer format with questions submitted in advance. Motion to approve made by Trish Underwood; seconded by Kathy Donohoe. Request approved. The  follow-up session will be scheduled for March 12.

 

2. A request for $75 to buy refreshments for the Celebration of the Arts was submitted by Julie Morris. Motion to approve made by Kathy Donohoe; seconded by Sally Turcotte. Approved.

 

Upcoming Events

1. Planetarium Night is scheduled for March 3, with shows at 6:30 and 7:45.  The cost is $450; Elizabeth Ridinger is organizing. 

2. The next movie night will be at MSS on Friday, March 9th. The movie will be Hoot, which is rated PG. Flyers will be sent out at both MSS and HMS.

3. Fun Fair has been set for Saturday, May 12. The committee will have its first meeting on February 16th at 9:00 am. 

4. Candidate Forum

The possibility of holding a candidate forum for school board elections was discussed. No final decision was made. 

 

Upcoming PTA meetings

The March meeting has been moved to 1:00pm at HMS on Thursday March 8 to avoid conflict with Celebration of the Arts.  Cindy Dobe will be on hand to discuss internet saftey.

 

At the close of the meeting Steve Chamberlin gave an overview of possible changes to graduation requirements at the high school .
