STARTING
THE SCHOOL YEAR SMOOTHLY
Here are some tips to help
make the beginning of the year smooth:
1. Get that routine established as soon as possible. This includes
a revised bedtime, a solid location and time for homework, and perhaps a
different balance of TV vs. reading.
2. Remind your children about bus safety. Don’t assume that they
know the basics.
3. More than ever, provide time to listen to your children’s concerns,
challenges, and victories as their life undergoes significance change.
4. Tell your child how you intend to help him or her this year,
by overseeing homework, volunteering in the school, attending PAC or PTA,
or setting a regular time to talk with your child about school.
5. Make contact with your teacher in some way in the first couple
of weeks. While nothing replaces face to face connection, email is now a
very effective way to communicate with our staff. If you need specific addresses,
check them out on our web site.
6. Please read everything that comes home. Every Friday we publish
the Parent Flash, most classes have regular newsletters, and the
HMS Email List is a supplementary means of communicating. The school district
also publishes a very professional quarterly newsletter mailed to every home
in town.
