PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (PAC)
|
| The
most recent version of the HMS Parent Advisory Council (PAC) was
established in 2000. Its function was to provide an outlet for parent
concerns and questions while giving our staff and me the chance to
enlighten parents on educational topics of relevance to the school.
Great programs have stemmed from the HMS PAC including our enrichment
and volunteer initiatives. In the following years, attendance dropped significantly at both the Harold Martin School and Maple Street School PAC meetings. Active PAC members, Maple Street Principal Michael Bessette, and I discussed the reasons for this, and we adjusted the topics and brought in many speakers of interest to parents to try to increase attendance. Last year, we voted to combine our energies K-6 with PTA and on a one-year trial basis, combine the PAC and PTA nights while providing the same quality of support for parents. The PTA/PAC agenda included a speaker on an educational topic as we had in the past and a segment for PTA business. We will included a time, at the end of the meeting, for Michael Bessette and me to address questions or concerns specific to K-6 education. This year, Michael, the PTA officers, and I discussed the success of the PTA/PAC merger and we felt that the strength of PAC was diluted by combining the two organizations. Thus, we have decided to split the two groups, have them meet on separate nights, but hold only four PAC meetings next year in order to give greater emphasis to each meeting. Each PAC night will feature a major topic. Our goal is always to provide the most beneficial way for parents to be invested in their child’s school. Have a great year! -Bill Carozza |
