HOPKINTON RECREATION – UPCOMING EVENTS


July 4th Family Fun Day!

5K Family Fun Race – Registration begins at 8:00Am at the American Legion Hall, 169 Boundtree Rd.,

Contoocook.  Race begins at 9am.  Come wearing your red, white and blue!  This is a fun, social run but we will have informal timing at the finish. Awards will be presented during the festivities at Houston Field at 3:00 PM.  See the Town Website/Recreation Dept. for more information and registration form.

The Kid’s Parade – Preschoolers through 3rd grade are invited to dress up, decorate your bikes Pre-Registration is required starting at 10:30 A.M. at the gazebo and the parade will begin at 11:30am!  Prizes will be awarded for funniest, most original & most patriotic!

Main Parade – Starts at noon!    The parade will beginning at Hopkinton High School and proceeding down Park Avenue toward Contoocook Village Cemetery.

Independence Day Celebration at Houston Park – The afternoon, 12:30pm – 3:30pm, will include raffles/auctions, the 3rd annual Tooky Cookie Bake-Off, a variety of activities and games including a pie eating contest, 3 legged relay races, carriage rides, colonial games, root beer chugging contest, a balloon twister, bubble gum blowing contest, sack races, as well as performances by the Absolutely Magic Show and the Concord Coachmen Chorus!  And let’s not forget all the food and friends!!

American Red Cross Swim Lessons
The Recreation Department will once again hold be offering Swim Lessons at Kimball Pond.  The lessons continue to be complete success with most sessions filling up.  The classes will be for children ages 4 years or older and will include four levels, including two beginner classes, taught at various times.  Cost is $40 per two-week session and sessions run from Monday through Thursday with Friday as a make-up day if a class is cancelled.  Session I: 7/4 – 7/15, Session II: 7/18 – 7/29, Session III: 8/1 – 8/12. Hopkinton Summer Day Camp
Summer is HERE and so is Hopkinton’s Summer Day Camp! We are excited to welcome a new Summer Camp Director and several new camp staff!  The camp is for youth ages 6 through 12 years and will include seven one-week sessions beginning June 27th and ending August 12th (no camp on July 4th). Activities will include arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, swimming, kayaking, weekly field trips, special events and safe fun for everyone.  To obtain a registration form and more information go to www.hopkinton-nh.gov, click on recreation.  Space is still available in all sessions so register soon!!  If you have any questions, please call 746-2915.

British Soccer Camp
The British Soccer coaches are back!!!  Last year’s camp attracted a record of 130 youngsters as the coaches from England helped every participant fine tune their soccer skills, while keeping all entertained. This year’s camp will be even better! Camp will be held July 25 through July 29 and will include full and half-day sessions with a mini-session for the young ones.  The camp is for ages 4-14 years and you can register online at http://www.challengersports.com/.  Call 746-2915 with any questions.
Boston Red Sox Trip

The Hopkinton Recreation Department wants you to join us for our last of the season outing to Fenway Park to watch your beloved Boston Red Sox.  The package includes roundtrip transportation from Contoocook to Fenway on a luxury coach, driver gratuity, and a ticket to the ballgame.   On Tuesday, August 16th, the bus will leave Contoocook at 4pm and the game starts at 7:10pm.  Hopkinton/Contoocook residents have first priority, but if tickets remain, the general public will be able to make their purchases one month prior to the game.  Ticket cost is $65 each and  Augusts’ seats are in grandstand 2.  Upfront payment is required to confirm your spot. Call 746-2915 with any questions.
Hershey Track & Field
Hershey’s Track & Field Program was created to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old. Hopkinton Hershey Track is a 4-week program designed to give children experience in the sport of track & field.  Practice will be on the track at George’s Park, next to the high school, on Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm starting May 23rd.  Children with birth years between 1997-2002 are eligible to participate in the program.  The cost of the program is $20, includes the cost of the team shirt.  ($35 max per family).  Rookie camp birth years are between 2003-2006, cost is $10.  The Hershey Track program is sponsored by the Hopkinton Recreation Department and led by volunteer George Sabol.  You may contact George at 369-3733 or at ridgewalkerNH@comcast.net for more information.
Co-Ed Adult Volleyball
Volleyball is back!!!  Every Sunday night from 7-9pm at the Hopkinton High School gymnasium, come and join us for volleyball.  All skill levels are welcome and there is no fee.  Just show up ready for a great time!  Questions call 746-2915
Stained Glass Club
Come to the Slusser Senior Center every Thursday from 6 – 8pm to work on your stained glass projects or other crafts.  If you are a skilled expert in glass making or just learning, do stop by.  There will be a mix of levels of skills and if you are new, we can help you get started.  This is a social group with no structured teaching.  Some supplies are available for use, but it is best for you to have your own.  Call 746-2915 for more information.
Tai Chi for Everyone – Beginner Class Added
Are you interested in learning the art of Tai Chi or are you a seasoned expert.  Beginner classes are at 6pm every Thursday evening.   All are invited join the Tai Chi group at The Slusser Senior Center.  More advance classes are Tuesdays 7pm – 9pm and Saturdays 8:30am – 10:30am.  There will be a small cost/donation for each class.  Call 746-2915 for more information.

Slusser Senior Center phone # is 746-3800.  The hours are 8:30 – 4:30, Monday – Friday. 

Wednesday Lunch – Every Wednesday come enjoy a home cooked meal for lunch at 12 noon.   Each week, a volunteer group cooks up a wonderful meal and our dining room is filled with happy seniors.  Suggested donation per person is $4.00. We are always looking for groups to sponsor a meal.  Call 746-2915 to volunteer.
