COLUMBUS’ VOYAGE TO ASIA (CARIBBEAN REGION)

The first place that Columbus sailed to instead of going west to “Asia” he went south to the Canary Islands.The Canary Islands are named the Canary Islands because of the dogs that run around the islands.The reasonthat he went to the Canaries first was because it was the most western part of the Spanish territory and it was a good place to get water, wood, and meat before they left.The Canaries are very mountainous and most of the mountains are volcanic.

Where are the Greater Antilles?

The Greater Antilles are located in the Caribbean region. There are four islands in the Greater Antilles, Cuba (the biggest), Hispaniola (second), third is Puerto Rico, and fourth is Jamaica. The Greater Antilles are located in the western hemisphere and Cuba, the biggest island, is 90 miles south of Florida not visible from the edge of Cuba.
