Montserrat is a small island in the carribean region part of the lesser antilles. It is a high, volcanic island and it is known for its Soufriere Volcano that buried the city in ash and sut in 1995. It made molten lava slide down the mountain at 100 MPH. Thousands of people had to flee their homes and go to the northern part of the island to be safe on that side of the island. Some people stayed on the southern part next to the island for awhile but they were all killed in a sudden eruption in 1997. Then most of the islanders fled the island to other Caribbean islands or to Britian or Canada.
