The Canary Islands are six different Islands off the coast of Africa. They are called the Canary Islands, not because there’s canary’s flying around, but because there’s wild dogs running around. If you break up the word Canary it is CA-NA-RY, the CA is pronounced KA, see it is after K9. The reason that Columbus started there was because it was a good place to get food and water. Also there was a woman that was acting a governor, who Columbus was madly in love with. (This woman was not his wife.)

There are three island groups in the Caribbean Region. They are the Greater Antilles, The lesser Antilles, and the Bahamas’. The Greater Antilles consist of the countries of Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican republic (on the Island of Hispaniola.), Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. They are the biggest islands in the Caribbean region. Another group of islands are the Lesser Antilles. There are many islands in that group. They curve downward to South America in an arch. Montserrat is in the Lesser Antilles. The last group is called the Bahamas’. They are small and very hot tourist spots.
