The Canary islands were south of Spain. They were called the Canaries because of the wild dogs on the island K-9 they also had wild birds that were named Canaries after the island. The Canaries was a great place to fill up water and food and wood and other supplies that the ships needed. He also changed the sails of the Niña, to square sails because they were faster than triangular sails

Columbus chose there because he loved someone there. Also because there were no westward winds up at Palos but if he went south there were westward winds.

The Greater Antilles are in south of Florida and the islands that make them up are:Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica. The lesser Antilles are just to the east of the Greater Antilles and are a bunch of little islands that make a kind of backwards C shape all the way from Puerto Rico to Venezuela because of the plates below the water. The Bahamas are start east of Florida and the islands are shaped like little C’s little U’s little O’s. Montserrat is an island in the lesser Antilies.
