The Canaries are the western most Spanish territories. Called the Canary Islands because there was dogs on the loose. They were the place where Columbus started his journey to “Asia”. They are to the west of Africa. They are 70 mi. from Morocco’s sahara border. They are scattered in a 300 mi. long arch. 7 major Islands, 6 islets. The Canaries are in volcanic origin, so they have steep coasts. He went to the Canaries because there was a good supply of fresh water, meat, and wood. Columbus is thought to have stopped there because there was a governor that he loved in the Islands.

Cuba is the largest of all, and is 90 miles from the most southern tip of Florida. Hispaniola is the island to the east of Cuba. It has Haiti and the Dominican Republic on the island. Lesser Antilles

The Lesser Antilles are the little islands southeast of the Greater Antilles. The Lesser Antilles go from the southeast point of Puerto Rico to near the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Montserrat, Barbados, and Anguilla are few of the many islands in the Lesser Antilles.
