IN ATTENDANCE

School Board: Chairman: David Luneau, Vice Chairman: Elizabeth Durant, Board Members: Larry Donahue, William Jones

Administration: Superintendent: Steven Chamberlin

CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mr. Luneau called the meeting to order at 7:30am. Mr. Chamberlin led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

COMMENTS FROM THE HOPKINTON SCHOOL BOARD

Mr. Luneau commented on the wonderful NHTI commencement.

ITEMS FOR BOARD DISCUSSION

a. Personnel

  1. i. Leave of Absence (Action Item)

Mr. Chamberlin stated that Ann Morea-Duana a 0.6 Spanish teacher has requested a one-year leave of absence. He stated that the HEA contract addresses unpaid leave. The District has granted unpaid leave in the past as a means to support employees. Ms. Morea-Duana has worked for the District for eleven years.

  1. ii. Long-term Substitutes (2) (Action Items)

Mr. Chamberlin stated that FMLA has been granted to a staff member with a significant illness.These two long-term substitutes will fill in for this staff member: two days a week/one day each.

  1. iii. Contract Reduction (Action Item)

Mr. Chamberlin stated that Kathryn Backman has requested to reduce her contract to a 0.4. He stated that once accepted by the Board, there would be an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) position open at Maple Street School.

 

  1. b. Tuition Student (Action Item)

Mr. Chamberlin stated this student would be a freshman in the 2011-2012 school year. Mr. Chamberlin stated that this action item is preliminary to accept this student. He stated the freshman class is a class of 75, so there is room for this student.

ACTION ITEMS

10.  The Hopkinton School Board accept the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept Spanish teacher Ann Morea-Duana’s request for a leave of absence for the 2011 – 2012 school year.

A motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms Durant, motion carries, all in favor, not opposed.

11.  The Hopkinton School Board approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept Hopkinton Middle High School and Maple Street School teacher Kathryn Backman’s request to reduce her 0.8 annual teacher contract to 0.4 for the 2011 -2012 school year.

A motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms. Durant, motion carries, all in favor, not opposed

12. The Hopkinton School Board accept the Superintendent’s nomination of Arlene Taranow, long-term substitute reading teacher, Maple Street School, effective May 13, 2011, for the remainder of the 2010 – 2011 school year.

A motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms. Durant, motion carries, all in favor, not opposed

13. The Hopkinton School Board accept the Superintendent’s nomination of Karla Heck, long-term substitute reading teacher, Harold Martin School, for the remainder of the 2010 – 2011 school year.

A motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms. Durant, motion carries, all in favor, not opposed

 

14. The Hopkinton School Board approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept a ninth grade tuition student, as discussed, for the 2011– 2012 school year.

A motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms. Durant, motion carries, all in favor, not opposed

 

At 7:42am Mr. Donahue made a motion, seconded by Ms. Durant that the Board enter into nonpublic session in accordance with RSA 91-A:3 (a), (c), and (e) for the discussion of legal matters, personnel, and a student issue. Motion passed on a roll call vote: Mr. Luneau (yes), Mr. Jones (yes), Mr. Donahue (yes), Ms. Durant (yes), all in favor, not opposed.

At 8:25am a motion was made by Mr. Donahue, seconded by Ms. Durant to adjourn the meeting, motion passed, all in favor, not opposed.

During the nonpublic session the Board discussed legal matters, personnel, and a student issue.

Ms. Durant motioned to come out of nonpublic session, seconded by Mr. Donahue, motion passed on a roll call vote: Ms. Durant (yes), Mr. Luneau (yes), Mr. Jones (yes), Mr. Donahue (yes), all in favor, not opposed.

The board came out of nonpublic session at 8:25am.
