IN ATTENDANCE

School Board: David Luneau, Chairman; Elizabeth Durant, Vice Chairman (left the meeting at 8:30am); William Jones, William Chapin, R. Matthew Cairns, Board Members

Administration: Steven Chamberlin, Superintendent of Schools

CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mr. Luneau called the meeting to order at 7:30am; everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CORRESPONDENCE

Letter from Marie Morgan, Bureau of School Approval and Facility Mgmt. NH DOE, regarding school approval and a letter to James O’Brien, Chairman, Hopkinton Board of Selectmen, recognizing Police Chief Stephen Pecora as the 2012-2013 Hopkinton School District Champion for Children Award recipient.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion to approve the minutes of the school board meeting held on June 18, 2012, was made by Mr. Luneau, seconded by Mr. Cairns, all in favor, minutes carry.

PUBLIC COMMENT (1)

COMMENTS FROM THE HOPKINTON SCHOOL BOARD

Mr. Chapin asked for a review of the IEP plan process; the procedures to determine if a student is eligible for special education services.

Mr. Chamberlin stated that he would put it in the cue for “In Focus” this fall.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion to approve the minutes of the school board meeting held on June 18, 2012, was made by Mr. Cairns, seconded by Ms. Durant, all in favor, minutes carry.

ITEMS FOR BOARD DISCUSSION

  1. a. Personnel (Action Items)
    1. i. Nominations:

HHS Special Education Teacher

Patrick Roye, a teacher from Campbell High School, comes forward as the nomination for the 1.0 special education teacher position. Mr. Chamberlin stated that Mr. Roye will be a nice asset to the special education department. The nomination is pending a criminal background check.

Part Time Extended School Year Bus Driver

Mr. Chamberlin stated Jessie Morrill is being nominated as a part time Extended School Year bus driver. The position is necessary because some students would have to ride the bus up to two hours daily. This also supports our local bus driver having a more flexible schedule during the summer.

  1. ii. Resignation: HHS School to Career Coordinator

Nancy Carrigg, School to Career Coordinator, has submitted her resignation. The Board and Mr. Chamberlin wish her all the best.

iii. Superintendent Evaluation

Mr. Luneau stated that the board would like to meet in nonpublic regarding Mr. Chamberlin’s evaluation.

ACTION ITEMS

11.  The Hopkinton School Board approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept HHS School to Career Coordinator Nancy Carrigg’s resignation effective July 1, 2012.

A motion was made by Ms. Durant, seconded by Mr. Jones, all in favor, motion carries, with reluctance and regret.

12.  The Hopkinton School Board approve the Superintendent’s nomination of Patrick Roye, Special Education Teacher, Hopkinton High School 1.0 for the 2012-2013 school year, pending final approval from the Superintendent of Schools.

A motion was made by Ms. Durant, seconded by Mr. Jones, all in favor, motion carries.

13.  The Hopkinton School Board approve the Superintendent’s nomination of Jessie Morrill, part time Extended School Year Bus Driver effective July 10, 2012.

A motion was made by Ms. Durant, seconded by Mr. Jones, all in favor, motion carries.

14.  The Hopkinton School Board approve Steven M. Chamberlin as Superintendent of Schools, Hopkinton School District, July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2015 with compensation as presented.  (Tabled until after nonpublic session)

At 7:46am Mr. Jones made a motion, seconded by Ms. Durant that the Board enter into nonpublic session in accordance with RSA 91-A:3 (a), (b), (c), and (e) for the discussion of personnel. Motion passed on a roll call vote: Mr. Luneau (yes), Mr. Jones (yes), Ms. Durant (yes), Mr. Cairns (yes), Mr. Chapin (yes), all in favor, not opposed.

ACTION ITEM

14.  The Hopkinton School Board approve Steven M. Chamberlin as Superintendent of Schools, Hopkinton School District, July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2015 with compensation as presented.

A motion was made by Mr. Cairns, seconded by Mr. Chapin, all in favor, motion carries.

ADJOURNMENT

At 8:50am a motion was made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Cairns to adjourn the meeting, motion passed, all in favor, not opposed.
