Portrait of a Learner
Portrait of a Learner
The Portrait of a Hopkinton Learner is a commitment to the students of Hopkinton. Developed using input from a wide variety of people, our Portrait describes the important skills and dispositions that students need to learn in order to be successful along whatever pathway they choose. We have solicited input from students, families, teachers, staff, and community members in order to develop a common understanding of the unique needs of students in the Hopkinton School District.
Our Process
Starting in April 2024, we have collected input from our community of students, families, and staff. People have been able to provide their input through surveys and in-person discussions.
In all, we collected survey responses from 670 people, including 256 from district families. In our surveys (link), we asked people to score skills and dispositions in terms of their importance to student success in school and beyond. You can see a summary of those scores here.
The survey data and responses formed the basis for in person discussions. The Portrait of a Hopkinton Learner Team hosted in person discussions for students, parents, and staff in which we looked at the survey data to identify trends as to which skill are most important for our community. We collected artifacts from those in person discussions, which can be viewed here.
The goal of this process was to develop a Portrait of a Hopkinton Learner that represents those skills and dispositions that are most important for Hopkinton students.
The Portrait of a Hopkinton Learner Team developed a prototype of our district's Portrait that was then shared with students, families, and staff for feedback. This feedback resulted in refinements to the design, which was shared with the Hopkinton School Board in December 2024.
Our Portrait of a Hopkinton Learner was adopted by the School Board on December 5, 2024.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated in this important process!
