Grade Four Welcome Letter
August 1, 2011
Dear Maple Street School Fourth Grade Students and Parents:
Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year at Maple Street School! In just a few short weeks, the faculty, staff, and I will be greeting you as you arrive for your first day at our school, and we look forward to the shared energy and thrills that accompany those first few moments of a new experience.
For many of you, coming to MSS will seem like a big step away from Harold Martin School. You may be nervous about your new surroundings, teachers, or friendships and how these things may change or remain the same. You may question whether or not you will be able to be successful and enjoy school and learning in your new surroundings. All these feelings are very natural, and you are not the first to have experienced them. Let me be the first to reassure you that our school is ready to help you feel welcomed and successful, and to share with you what we are so proud of – our community of caring and learning.
In the opening days of school, I look forward visiting with each of you in your classrooms to talk with you in person about many of the things our school holds in great value and expects of it’s community members. We will talk about the important concepts that help to guide our school: Being Safe, Being Respectful, Being Responsible and Being a Community and how these concepts help to frame our daily experiences. In so doing, I hope to learn more about you and your families, and to share more about our school and what we aspire to be as a community.
Parents, as we approach the new school year, I am reminded of the importance of communication between MSS and home to help ease the burdens of transition. I encourage you to take a moment to think about your child’s arrival at MSS, and to feel free to drop me a letter or email with any information you feel that I could share with your child’s teacher that may be significant in helping to make the transition to our school go smoothly. I will make certain that the information you share gets to the teacher or appropriate staff member before the start of school. Additionally, if you have yet to register for the school’s email listserv, a critical aspect of our communications network, I would ask that you do so by visiting the “Principal’s Page” at: www.hopkintonschools.org/mss and clicking the “Listserv Sign Up” tab. While there, feel free to browse the other tabs to learn more about our school, it’s programs, and the curricula we teach.
In closing, I speak for all faculty and staff when I say how much we are looking forward to the start of the new school year on August 30th. Please feel free to visit the school in the interim or contact me at 746-4195 if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael Bessette
Principal, Maple Street School
