2020 Hopkinton School Meeting Results

Thank you very much for coming out to vote today and especially for your patience with the long lines to
check-in. I am sorry that the process took so long, but I am sure you were more comfortable in your car
than on the bleachers in the gym. I greatly appreciated the support many voters voiced when casting their
ballots.
The votes have been counted and recounted, and I am hereby declare the following results:


Question 1: to approve the proposed rules of the meeting: Yes: 1,283 to 106. The moderator’s proposed
procedures and rules are hereby adopted and counting the vote continued.


Article 2: to adopt SB2 form of government: Yes: 744, No 660. This Article required 60% to pass. The
yes votes were 53.0%. Article 2 Fails to reach 60% and therefore fails.


Article 3, Motion 1: to amend the proposed operating budget to $19,533, 045: Yes: 616, No: 789. Article
3 Motion 1 fails. Counting then continued to Article 3, Motion 2.


Article 3 Motion 2: to amend the proposed operating budget to $20,033,045: Yes 523, No 878. Article 3
Motion 2 fails. Counting continued to Article 3, Motion 3.


Article 3, Motion 3: to amend the proposed operating budget to $20,533,045 (the so-called “flat
budget”): Yes: 640, No 762. Article 3, Motion 3 Fails. Counting continued to Article 3 Motion 4.


Article 3, Motion 4: to amend the proposed operating budget to $21,000,000: Yes 498, No 901. Article 3,
Motion 4 fails. Counting continued to Article 3, Motion 5.


Article 3, Motion 5: to amend the proposed operating budget to $21,616,331: Yes 247, No 1,154. Article
3, Motion 5 Fails. Counting continued to Article 3 as proposed.


Article 3, as proposed: Yes 617, No 786. Article 3 Fails. Because we do not have a default budget and
no budget was approved, the meeting will be recessed for Article 3 only. The recessed date is below.

Article 4: the teachers’ contract: Yes 688, No 707, Article 4 failed.


Article 5: should Article 4 fail, then can a special meeting be called to consider a new teachers’ contract:
Yes: 856, No 536. Article 5 passes. The school board will make any announcements about this after
discussing the matter.


Article 6: the teamsters’ contract: Yes 808, No 580. Article 6 passes.


Article 7: Special meeting: Because Article 6 passed, Article 7 is moot and needs no vote.


Article 8: the general contingency fund: Yes 681, No 712. Article 8 fails.


Article 9: the School District Repair and Maintenance Fund: Yes 794, No 600. Article 9 passes.


Article 10: the Special Education Expendable Trust Fund: Yes 826, No 570. Article 10 passes.


Article 11: the Replacing School District Vehicles Capital Reserve Fund: Yes 741, No 656. Article 11
passes.


Article 12: No additional comments were received on Article 12.

Again, I would like to thank the voters for their patience today and for the turnout. I would also like to
thank our law enforcement officers who helped with set-up and crowd control. And to the volunteer vote
counters, supervisors of the checklist, school board, and everyone else who helped make this meeting
happen under unique circumstances.
With this, I hereby recess the 2020 Hopkinton School District Meeting to Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 8:30
am, at the Hopkinton Middle High School for voting on Article 3, the Operating Budget. Thank you and
